Communication:

Advertising is like an audio loop on constant playback: the advertiser talks and the consumer listens (or maybe not). Marketing is more akin to a telephone conversation because it's about dialogue and feedback.

Now, one of these isn't always right and the other always wrong. They're just different disciplines. An argument can be made which comes first, the cart or the horse. But the important thing is that both advertising and marketing are about communication—sharing our stories.

I'm a skillful communicator, not just because I can tell a great story, but also because I love to hear one. I'm good at what I do because I listen, I ask questions and I learn. Then, I translate everything I've discovered into a coherent, targeted, powerful story. Your story.
