How do I answer the dreaded question: So, what exactly is it that you do? I want to be accurate. I could opt for the hyphenated response:
I'm a writer - designer - artist - advertiser - marketer - producer - director - actor - speaker - trainer - specialist. But that's a real conversation killer. I've only used it once. It had the desired effect.
What do I say if I want to keep the conversation going? I've thought about this quite a lot recently. At this point in my career, the best answer I can give is this: I'm a storyteller.
I use words, images and actions—in all types of media I can master—to tell exciting stories. A Weblog is a story. So is a billboard, a brochure, a radio spot and even a 140-character tweet. You get the picture. Whenever we try to communicate—whether it's just to sound off, to gather information, influence, persuade or incite—we share our stories. Over time, and persistent trial-and-error, I've earned some practical wisdom about this inherently human endeavor. So I ask: How can I help you share your story? (more)
